Apple has announced details relating to IOS 11 will have support to allow iPhones to read NFC tags and NDEF messages! This means that all iPhone 7 and newer will be able to read NFC tags just like Android.
Since 2010 Android devices have had the ability to read NFC tags but Apple have been resilient in blocking any advance in this area. The iPhone 6 was the first iPhone to incorporate a NFC scanner but this was specifically tied down so it would only work with ApplePay. But now there is a seachange at Apple HQ where they have now opened up their operating system to allow for the potential to scan a growing range of NFC enabled services. Continue reading
